When assessing a client’s evidence during the course of a case or investigation, nothing beats those Eureka! or Aha! moments. Locating a key or corroborating piece of evidence, or proving an assertion through detailed analysis of evidence, is what makes the often-arduous disclosure process worthwhile.

With a traditional approach, these Eureka moments are hard to come by, usually earnt through a solicitor’s creativity and graft, but what if they could be achieved more frequently and with less time and effort?

Brainspace is a cutting-edge data analytics platform, which gives users the technology to analyse and understand evidence and locate vital information buried within large volumes of data. Anexsys have partnered with Brainspace to bring these benefits to our clients. This Brainspace partnership will be provided as part of our managed services, alongside a range of market-leading eDiscovery platforms.

How It Works – Early Case Assessment

Brainspace has an intuitive, user-friendly interface that allows users to dig into areas of interest, no matter how large the dataset. At the outset of a case this can be vital and can heavily inform the direction of a case.

The Brainspace Heat Map directs users towards trends, enabling the targeting of specific people, places and entities. User can easily customise searches to target key areas of evidence. At the same time,
irrelevant data that does not require review, can be culled. As part of our managed service, our consultants can assist in the development of case strategy using the functionality of Brainspace.

Brainspace’s Cluster Wheel allows users to visualise data and to focus in on the most relevant information more rapidly.

Concept Searching

Using a phrase, a paragraph, or even entire document as a basis, Brainspace can detect key concepts or issues in a case and produce documents that relates to those concepts. This goes beyond standard keyword searches and can often lead to the discovery of key information that would not be picked up by standard search terms.

Communication Analysis

Communication analysis provides users with an interactive visualisation of networks of communication. It can be modified to the specific facts of an investigation and used to identify who has been communicating with whom, how often and during which periods.

Avoid Duplicating Work

For companies carrying out similar investigations into multiple employees or individuals, standard workflow and templates can be created to target certain types of data from the outset, accelerating access to key documents.

Continuous Active Learning

Users can tag documents in Brainspace and can implement Continuous Active Learning (“CAL”). CAL is an analytics engine that learns from document tagging decisions made by users. It detects the features of a document tagged as relevant and directs users to other documents within a data set that contain similar features. The more documents that are tagged as relevant, the more the CAL engine understands the features of a key document. This significantly increases the likelihood of finding them.

At Anexsys we have a continuing commitment to ensuring our clients have access to market-leading technologies. We are excited by the opportunities that our Brainspace partnership will bring to our clients involved in both litigation and investigations.
